Somewhere Over the Rainbow

Ok, I’m a fairly closet American Idol watcher. (Randy Jackson is a dumbass and I want to punch him in the face). This performance last night was effing brilliant. Loved it!

Long Black Veil

Posted on April 8, 2008 04:24 by Julie

There is no denying that Johnny Cash has an amazing version of this song and so do several others. But ya’ll know that Dave is my favorite musician in the ENTIRE FREAKING WORLD. An amazing song by TWO amazing men. Seriously, I have goose bumps, so glad that I came across this treasure today:

Lover Lay Down

Posted on April 1, 2008 09:00 by Julie

Lover Lay Down

Spring sweet rhythm dance in my head
Slip into my lovers hands
Kiss me wont you kiss me now
And sleep I would inside your mouth
Dont be us too shy
Knowing its no big surprise
That I will wait for you
I will wait for no one but you
Oh please lover lay down
Spend this time with me
Together share this smile
Lover lay down
Spend this time with me
Walk with me, walk with you
Hold my hands your hands
So much we have dreamed
And you were so much younger
Hard to explain that we are stronger
A million reasons life to deny
Lets toss them away
See you and me we
Lay down look see
She and he
By my lovers side
Together share this smile
Lover lay down
Oh please oh please
Please lover lay down
Oh please lover lay down
And you weep lover lay down
Cause its over lover lay down
Say love, say love, say love, say love, say love
Could I love you
Could you love me
Darling its all the same
til we dance away
Chasing me all around
Leading me all around
Leading me all around in circles
Say.......

~Dave Matthews Band (my favorite version is from Live at Luther College)

One of those songs that the words speak for themselves.

Songs I Can't Stop Listening To

Posted on March 17, 2008 00:18 by Julie

My love of music is well documented. There are times I get really obsessed about a specific song or artist. Right now I'm obsessing on five songs:

Vicious Traditions - The Veils

Back in the beginning of sumer, Tim and I discovered this song/group inadvertently. It was included in a montage of scenes from the movie Mr. Brooks starring Kevin Costner and Dane Cook. While I think Kevin Costner is easily the second worst (popular) actor on the face of the planet, you know I went to that movie to see my man, Dane. But I digress. A little Google search brought us to this band, Tim downloaded several songs of theirs and they are all good, but this one is my favorite still. I like how it builds to a crescendo and then just trails off. It reminds me of so many things, but I always end the song imagining myself falling back to sleep on a breezy summer morning. This is an example of a song that I can ignore the words to and just get lost in the haunting voice of the singer, coupled with some great music accompanying it. Incidentally, I read this band had broken up a few years ago. Go figure, that happens to all of the great band, it seems.

Tyler - The Toadies

Another band that isn't together anymore. This was a band that came out of Fort Worth, TX and only ever released 2 albums, Rubberneck is my favorite. There are other more popular songs on the album, like I Come From The Water or Possum Kingdom, but this is my favorite. Wikipedia says they may be releasing some new stuff and there is a new song on their MySpace, so we'll see. Tyler is a fantastic song that makes my hyper when I'm driving; never a good thing. My single favorite line from the song is when the lead singer says "she pulls the covers tighter, as I press against the door". I just love his voice when he says it. Yeah, the other lyrics are good too and so is the music, etc. But I love this song for that one line.

Born of a Broken Man - Rage Against the Machine

RATM has a lot of songs that I really love, which is a bit surprising to me since I'm not really a hard rock kind of gal. I do like this kind of music, but typically I don't listen to it endlessly. Born of a Broken Man gives me goose bumps every time that I listen to it. "Born of a broken man, but not a broken man, born of a broken man, never a broken man." It makes me want to know that man. Great song and one I've had on replay for at least the last 2 months. If you've never heard it, check it out, listen to the words, you will not be disappointed.

The Warmth - Incubus

Yes, those are whales communicating underwater at the beginning of this song. And you know what? It just works. There is also an acoustic version of this song that I really like. The chorus goes: "So don't let the world bring you down. Not everyone here is that fucked up and cold. Remember why you came and while you're alive, experience the warmth before you grow old." Yeah, enough said. I missed the chance to see Incubus this summer at White River, AND it was Tim's little brother's 21st birthday. I could kick myself for that now, they had a blast and I'm sure I would still be able to close my eyes and hear the music. I will never, ever miss a chance to see an amazing band because the man I'm with doesn't want to go. Never. Incubus kicks ass, this song kicks ass and if you listen to it, you'll kick ass, too.

Demons - Guster

Another concert I missed this summer, but I did see them the year before because they opened for Ray Lamontagne. I will be going again for sure. Demons is my favorite song by them. I've had this song on one or more playlists for at least the last year and it never gets old to me. Every.Single.Word. I've felt before.

Music - Mazzy Star

Posted on March 12, 2008 07:55 by Julie

I love Mazzy Star, the music is just so haunting. This is one of my favorite songs put out by the group:

Fade Into You

I want to hold the hand inside you
I want to take a breath thats true
I look to you and I see nothing
I look to you to see the truth
You live your life
You go in shadows
Youll come apart and youll go black
Some kind of night into your darkness
Colors your eyes with whats not there.

Fade into you
Strange you never knew
Fade into you
I think its strange you never knew

A strangers light comes on slowly
A strangers heart without a home
You put your hands into your head
And then smiles cover your heart

Fade into you
Strange you never knew
Fade into you
I think its strange you never knew

Fade into you
Strange you never knew
Fade into you
I think its strange you never knew
I think its strange you never knew
